The Chenin Blanc ‘Florence’ is a white wine from South Africa produced in Stellenbosch by the Aaldering estate, capable of leaving a mark for its exotic and mineral character. This label belongs to the ‘Florence’ line, named after the only granddaughter of Marianne and Fons Aaldering and composed of youthful and lively expressions designed for everyday life. Additionally, the name Florence derives from the Latin Florentius, Florentia in the feminine form, which means flourishing and prosperous. The over 20 hectares of vineyards cultivated by the Dutch couple Marianne and Fons Aaldering are located in the Devon Valley and are managed according to sustainable viticulture.
Aaldering Chenin Blanc ‘Florence’ comes from only Chenin Blanc grapes grown in the Devon Valley on red clay-sandy soils. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand, and the bunches are then carefully selected and subjected to a gentle pressing. The must obtained is then directed into stainless steel tanks for controlled temperature alcoholic fermentation, the same type of winemaking containers where the liquid remains to mature for 10 months on the fine lees, a period during which it enriches itself with complexity and structure. The wine is finally bottled with a screw cap to preserve its integrity over time.
To the eye, the ‘Florence’ Chenin Blanc from Aaldering expresses a brilliant straw yellow color. The olfactory range denotes hints of exotic fruit, peach blossoms, and citrus, associated with peculiar notes of flint, pastry cream, and aromatic herbs. Taste progression is balanced between creamy softness and the decided fresh-salty component, with a clean finish that insists on mineral notes and tropical fruit. This South African Chenin Blanc can be comfortably enjoyed young or aged for several years.
