The Chardonnay from the wine estate Capannelle is characterized as an interpretation with exotic and delicately oaky aromas, the first being typical of the grape variety while the latter resulting from partial aging in oak. Although Capannelle winery has always focused on traditional Tuscan varieties, particularly Sangiovese and Malvasia Nera, Chardonnay represents a sort of exception to the rule, with the first plantings of the variety dating back to 1986. This makes Capannelle one of the first estates in Chianti to experiment with the production of whites from Chardonnay grapes, made with a barrel aging in full Burgundian style.
The Capannelle Chardonnay is made exclusively from grapes of the same white variety cultivated through an agronomic approach inspired by the principles of organic farming. After harvesting, the bunches are transferred to the winery where they undergo traditional white winemaking, based on a gentle pressing followed by the alcoholic fermentation of the must in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. For the subsequent maturation phase, which lasts for about 10 months, 80% of the mass matures in steel while the remaining 20% is aged in new French oak barrels. This is followed by blending and further resting in the bottle before the final market release.
The Chardonnay from Capannelle has an intense straw yellow color with golden reflections. The aromatic bouquet offers pleasant hints of exotic fruit, citrus, honey, lavender, broom flowers, and white almond, combined with notes of oaky. On the palate, it reveals a winning combination of creamy softness, firm sapidity, and balancing freshness, elements that come together in a refined progression of excellent persistence.
