Casalferro Ricasoli 2018

Casalferro is a pure Merlot, aged in wood for 18 months, which gives the emotion of a great red, elegant, harmonious and caressing to the palate. The label was born in 1993, with the arrival at the management of the estate of Francesco Ricasoli, and since that time, it has always represented an important reference point for the evolution of the winery towards innovative products that would surpass the ancient tradition of Chianti Classico. It is a modern wine with an international profile, capable of intercepting the tastes of an increasingly wide audience of enthusiasts, with an eye on foreign markets as well.

Casalferro wine comes from the estate's cru of the same name. This is a particularly valuable parcel, wonderfully exposed to the south, located at an altitude of about 400 meters above sea level. The soils are characterized by dark soils of predominantly clay matrix and poor in organic matter. In these favourable pedoclimatic conditions, Merlot expresses itself with slow and gradual ripening, with great elegance and aromatic richness. After harvesting, the grapes are rapidly sent to fermentation at a controlled temperature of 24-27 °C, with a maceration period on the skins of about 14-18 days. After racking, the Merlot matures in French oak barriques and tonneaux for 18-21 months and finishes ageing with a few months in the bottle before release.

Casalferro is a label that enhances the great qualities of a noble Bordeaux varietal like Merlot, highlighting its perfect adaptation to the Tuscan lands. A complex, elegant red with a ripe Mediterranean profile, it wins you over with its proverbial harmony of taste. In the glass, it has a rather dark ruby colour. The nose expresses intense aromas of small dark berry fruits, with toasted nuances, woody memories, and vegetal notes of Mediterranean scrub and liquorice root. The palate has a significant body and structure. It is ample, warm, soft and persuasive, with juicy fruit, beautiful evolutionary notes, silky tannins and balanced freshness. The finish is long and persistent. Perfect for bringing to the table with important roasts or games.
