The PIWI grape varieties were created from crosses between the European vitis vinifera and the Asian “amurensis\u003cstrong\u003e”\u003c\/strong\u003e vines, in order to have a plant that produces grapes suitable for winemaking and at the same time is resistant to fungal diseases.
