Friulano, native to the Collio area, has experienced ups and downs throughout history. Particularly appreciated for its fresh and fruity taste, as well as its characteristic almond finish, until recently Friulano was known by the name Tocai. However, due to a dispute with Hungary, which contested an excessive similarity of the word with Tokaji, a well-known Hungarian white wine, the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region was forced in 2008 to officially change the name of the grape variety to Friulano. Nevertheless, this has not erased the love of the Friulians for this traditional grape.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSirk ‘Bianco di Mitja’ comes from only sustainably grown Friulano grapes on the so-called “ponca”, a type of soil made up of an \u003cstrong\u003ealternation of layers of marls and sandstones\u003c\/strong\u003e. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand with part of the grapes affected by noble rot and is followed by pressing of whole grapes and subsequent spontaneous alcoholic fermentation of the must in stainless steel tanks. Also for the following aging phase, which takes place on the fine lees, stainless steel tanks are used, containers in which the wine matures for several months until final bottling.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eIn the glass, ‘Bianco di Mitja’ by Sirk displays an intense straw yellow color with golden hues. Distinct floral aromas present the olfactory range along with light green notes of tomato and hints of yellow peach and almond.
