Concarena

Concarena

The Concarena winery is located in Valcamonica and takes its name from the mountain that overlooks the estate. The property is situated in the area between the municipalities of Cemmo and Ono san Pietro, in a mountainous environment that offers particular conditions for vine cultivation. The vineyards, in fact, are located on the hilly slopes of ancient glacial cone deposits, with a sunny exposure facing east and southeast. The soils are poor, stony, and very draining, composed of morainic deposits of limestone, gypsum deposits, and calcareous marls, with the presence of slate and tuff. The climate of the area is of a continental type, with very cold winters and mild summers. During the ripening period of the grapes and the harvest, the clusters benefit from significant temperature swings between day and night, which promote the accumulation of intense and elegant aromas.

The mountainous territory and the cool climate guide all the work of the company, which is committed to bringing to the forefront and enhancing the peculiarities of a unique terroir and the the personality of each single vintage. To achieve these results, the practices in the vineyard and in the cellar are very flexible and decided based on the trend of the vintage, in order to always interpret the terroir in the best possible way. In the different plots of the estate, the varieties most suitable for the local microclimate are cultivated. In the Videt vineyard, for example, particularly cool, the Riesling Renano has adapted very well, producing wines of remarkable aromatic intensity, deep and very long-lived. The Barabant area, on the other hand, is ideal for the cultivation of red grape varieties, particularly Marzemino and Merlot, which express themselves very well, with an excellent balance between fruit richness and freshness.

The location of the estate in the heart of Valcamonica, at the foot of Monte Concarena, generally favors late harvests, with rather long ripening periods for the grapes. A characteristic that allows bringing into the cellar clusters that reach a rich aromatic intensity, while still preserving great freshness. The work in the cellar is very attentive and careful and takes place with the sole aim of preserving and highlighting the characteristics of the grape variety and the vintage, trying to intervene as little as possible. Thus are born expressive and direct wines, straightforward and authentic, perfect interpreters of this splendid mountainous territory.
