Bastiàncuntràri

The Bastiàncuntràri winery has been a project with an unusual and original connotation since the choice of its name: against tradition, established customs, with the desire to go against the grain and follow innovative ideas with courage, tenacity, and consistency. It was born from the initiative of two enterprising young men, Michele and Patrik, who, driven by an extraordinary passion for viticulture, decided to radically change their lives. They thus abandoned their respective jobs and professional careers to pursue a dream, motivated by a sincere love for their land: Valtellina. They transformed themselves into winemakers starting practically from scratch, beginning with great humility and sacrifice to cultivate the vineyards and initially sell the grapes to recoup their first investments.

The estate is located in the splendid alpine landscape of Valtellina, in an area of Lombardy always suited to viticulture, since ancient times, thanks to the presence of very particular microclimatic conditions that create an ideal habitat for the vine. Despite the high latitude and the location in a mountainous environment, Valtellina has the peculiarity of developing along the east-west axis, in a way that is absolutely anomalous compared to other alpine valleys, which descend from the peaks towards the plain with a predominant orientation from north to south. This particular orographic configuration allows the northern slope to be magnificently exposed to the sun all day long, ensuring full and perfect ripening of the grapes. The cool, typically alpine climate is thus tempered by generous sunshine and mild breezes that rise from Lake Como.

The vineyards are divided into many parcels, all located within the territory of the Valtellina Superiore denomination, particularly in the sub-zones Sassella, Grumello, and Inferno. The agronomic management of the estate is inspired by the principles of sustainability, with mechanical grass cutting and no use of herbicides. Fertilizations are carried out only using organic fertilizers and treatments are kept to a minimumessential, favoring products allowed by the regulations of organic farming. At the end of the harvest, the grapes are transported to the opposite side of the valley, where the winery is located, for vinification.
